NEWS
The Section of Biology at Emory University invites applications for three lecture track faculty positions.

We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in the biological sciences with a stiff commitment to pedagogy and a specific interest in instruction and advising undergraduates from a diversity of backgrounds. Applicants having prior experience with evidence-based pedagogy practices are encouraged to apply; postdoctoral feel is preferred.

Emory Provost Ravi V. Bellamkonda, a biomedical engineer, and groundbreaking immunologist Max D. Cooper have been named 2021 fellows of the National University of Inventors.  Dr. Bellamkonda has his research lab in Biology.   Read about the fellowship.

Biology major Ahmed Aljohani is Emory's 21st student to exist selected for the Rhodes Scholarship, which provides for study at the University of Oxford in England. Scholars are chosen based on outstanding intellect, character, leadership and service.  Congratulations!  Read most Ahmed here.

Emory Biology recently hosted a special seminar sponsored by the Hightower Fund and given about by Dr. Melissa Moore, who is the Primary Scientific Officer for Platform Research at Moderna.  The title of her talk was A timely confluence: The backstory of Moderna'due south COVID-xix vaccine.  About 175 people attended the talk, and 35-40 students met with Dr. Moore by Zoom for a special student session.  In this session, she touched upon two aspects, one was focused on her career journey and the other was focused on how the vaccine compares to other mRNA vaccines, the development process, and the challenges of it.

Congratulations to Sam Sober whose work in the areas of mentorship and collaboration has earned him the 2021 Landis Award for Outstanding Mentorship. Emory College Professor of Practice Emerita Pat Marsteller received the team William E. Bennett Award for Extraordinary Contributions to Citizen Science for her outstanding collaborative piece of work in advancing social justice in Stalk learning.  Read more hither.

Emory provost and biomedical scientist Ravi Bellamkonda has received the National Institutes of Wellness Managing director's Transformative Research Honour for his work using electrical fields to treat a especially aggressive pediatric cancer.  Read here.

Congratulations to Ilya Nemenman who has been named a Simons Investigator in Mathematics and Physical Sciences.

Sam Sober and his postdoc, Bryce Chung, have worked with electrical engineers at Georgia Tech to create electrode assortment technology.  "Our device volition exist the first to permit researchers and clinicians tape high-resolution electric action simultaneously from the big number of muscles controlling a circuitous behavior," Sober says.  Read more here.

Congratulations to Daniel Weissman! He specializes in building mathematical models to amend sympathize the rapid evolution of pathogens and has been named a Sloan Research Fellow. The prestigious fellowship honors the most promising researchers working today.  Dr. Weissman is an Associated Faculty member in Biology, with his appointment in Emory Section of Physics.  Read more here.
